Art

Art and artistic expression is proven to improve well being. Benefits include:

  • relieving stress;
  • encouraging creative thinking;
  • increasing brain plasticity;
  • improving emotional well-being;
  • helping symptoms of depression and anxiety;
  • improving memory and reasoning;
  • improving problem-solving skills.

Having knowledge and practice of doing art does not matter. There are many simple artistic activities that can be tried which give massive well-being benefits.

Art is something we have introduced to our program and we continue to champion this in other areas.

Creative writing

Creative writing can provide an an expressive outlet for many things. Benefits include:

  • relieving stress
  • increasing self-esteem;
  • improving and maintaining emotional balance;
  • provide a sense of accomplishment;
  • help to maintain a disciplined routine;
  • intellectual stimulation.

We run weekly creative writings where we allow our clients to run free with their literary ideas, as well as trying to inspire through reading poetry and other literature and writing poems and studying poetic structure and style.

Cultural events

Fortunately, Wakefield district and West Yorkshire as a whole has many cultural hotspots and we encourage and provide visits to such places. These places include:

  • Hepworth Art gallery
  • Leeds poetry festival
  • Yorkshire sculpture park
  • Wakefield theatre
  • Castleford civic centre
