As part of our mission, we try to spread the message of recovery to the still suffering addict wherever that may be and one of those places is the prison system – the institutions.
We offer a solution to inmates, a way out of the revolving door of crime and addiction.
How? Our outreach team regularly visit prisons across Yorkshire helping inmates make sense of their transgressions and bad decisions, offering some closure on the consequences they face and more importantly bringing ‘hope’ – through testimony, knowledge and teachings of the 12-step program. To empower inmates to leave prison and return to the outside world and not return to incarceration. Having the tools, the awareness, and the support to manage their addictions.
We also offer offenders when the they are released the chance to engage in our residential treatment program.
Shawn who spent much of his adult life in prison before achieving recovery and going back regularly into prisons to tell his story said “It’s like escaping from the cage then going back and freeing the rest of the birds”.
Outreach leader Lee said, ” It feels a relief as an ex-prisoner who broke that cycle of criminality and addiction to have the privilege to go back into that environment and share my experience with the guys to show its possible to change. That’s the true gift of this stuff-it’s possible”.
